After the tragedy at Grenfell Tower earlier this month communities have rallied all around the world to provide support for the victims. The music industry has responded with the quick recording of Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’. The effort was headed up by bigwig Simon Cowell and features over 20 stars. 2. Brother – Kodaline
Irish band Kodaline are back with a heartfelt single dedicated to the love of siblings. The track ‘Brother’ is the group’s first release of new music since 2015 and has all the classic Kodaline hallmarks that fans love. The dreamy vocals of Steve Garrigan croon “I’ve got you brother” in the chorus which is both uplifting and emotional. The music video details the story of a younger brother losing his older sibling and their love in a truly moving clip.
3. Little Of Your Love – Haim
American rock trio Haim have released their second single from the upcoming album, Something To Tell You. ‘Little Of Your Love’ is another big step in the right direction following the hugely successful ‘Want You Back’ which already has over 10 million streams of Spotify. ‘Little Of Your Love’ is a feel-good summer track that will have you moving your hips for sure.
4. Champion – Fall Out Boy
The new era of rockers Fall Out Boy continues. The first single from the album Mania, ‘Young and Menance’, came out last month and was met with mixed feelings with such a drastic shift in sound. The second single, out today, is called ‘Champion’ and sees a return to the Fall Out Boy sound fans are more used to. It’s chest-pounding and fist-pumping rock with Patrick Stump declaring “If I can live through this, I can do anything”. This is one to blast out loud!
5. I Don’t Know Why – Imagine Dragons
Evolve is finally here! The hotly anticipated third album from pop-rock band Imagine Dragons hit shelves and streaming services today. Tracks such as ‘Beliver’, ‘Thunder’ and ‘Walking the Wire’ had already been released and were very impressive. ‘I Don’t Know Why’ is the opening track on Evolve and the best of the unheard songs on the record. The drum is pulsing and guitar riffs on point – everything you want from Imagine Dragons!
6. Window Seat – Fuse ODG
What screams summer more that Afrobeats star Fuse ODG? He is the voice behind tracks such as ‘Dangerous Love’, ‘Antenna’, ‘Azonto’ and ‘Million Pound Girl’. He is back with another song that is sure to get you moving with ‘Window Seat’. The sound of summer, beaches and cocktails is exactly what we all need right now!
7. Somebody Else – Circa Waves
Circa Waves are having quite the year. Their record Different Creatures received a host of fantastic reviews and now they have released a new cover of The 1975’s ‘Somebody Else’. The original track is a huge sing-a-long hit that has nearly 100 million streams on Spotify but Circa Waves have added more of a rock feel to the track. It’s always risky covering already successful songs but the band have managed to give the track a new feeling without losing the quality of the original – fantastic work, lads!
8. Did You See (Mura Masa Remix) – J Hus
Another star who is enjoying a breakthrough year is J HUS. The hip-hop artist has scored hits with tracks such as ‘Did You See’ and ‘Samantha’ with Dave this year. Producer and up-and-coming DJ, Mura Masa has remixed ‘Did You See’, putting his unique sound on it, and it is dfinitley worth checking out.
9. LAIDBACK – Rat Boy
Ahead of the release of debut album SCUM on August 11th, RAT BOY has let another new track out into the open. ‘LAIDBACK’ is perhaps the most mainstream-sounding of his songs to date but is, nonetheless, another promising effort. RAT BOY really has nailed the indie-rock vibe and SCUM is set to be one of the debut albums of the year.
10. Naughty Ride – Wizkid & Major Lazer
Major Lazer are just everywhere at the moment. This latest collaboration is with Wizkid. He enjoyed success last summer as part of Drake’s ‘One Dance’. ‘Naughty Ride’ echoes those simple, almost reggae-like, summer chords and the Caribbean-infused production from Major Lazer really completes the track.
